IIM CAT 2009 from November 28th

Aug 30 : The Common Admission Test (CAT), the first step in the process of seeking admission to the Post-Graduate and Fellow Programmes in Management offered by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore, Kozhikode, Lucknow and Shillong will be held at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Durgapur, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Patna, Pune, Ranchi, Siliguri and Varanasi during 28th November 2009 (Saturday) and 7th December 2009 (Monday).

The test will be of 2 hours and 30 minutes duration (without any break) including initial 15 minute tutorial and will consist of 60 to 70 questions in three sections that evaluate a candidate’s quantitative, verbal, logical and data interpretive abilities.

CAT will be a computer based test (CBT). Candidates, instead of reading the questions in a paper booklet and darkening the ovals on the answer-sheet, will read the questions on a computer terminal and choose an answer by clicking on the correct option. At the test venue, each candidate will be seated at a desk with a computer terminal and he/she will be provided with a scratch paper for calculations. After the test, candidate must leave the scratch paper at the desk. Rough work cannot be done on any other paper/sheet, as nothing will be allowed inside the testing room.

IIM CAT Demo Test is available at http://content.catiim.in/catdemo/index.htm A typical testing day for CAT will have 2 examination sessions, one of which can be chosen by applicants subject to availability.

Session I will begin at 10 and end at 12.30 pm. Check-in of candidates will commence at 8 am. Candidates are required to arrive at the test center not later than 8.30 am.

Session 2 will begin at 3.30 pm and end at 6 pm. Candidate check-in will commence at 1.30 pm. Candidates are required to arrive at the test center not later than 2 pm.

The Programmes offered are as follows:

A. Post Graduate Programmes (PGP) in Management

IIM Ahmedabad: PGP, PGP-ABM (Agri-Business Management) and PGP-PMP (Public Management and Policy)

IIM Bangalore: PGP, PGSEM and PGPPM

IIM Caluctta: PGP-PGDM and PGP-PGDCM

IIM Indore: PGP and EPGP

IIM Kozhikode: PGP

IIM Lucknow: PGP and PGP-ABM

RGIIM Shillong: PGP

B. Fellow Programmes in Management (FPM) (Equivalent to Ph.D) of IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode and IIM Lucknow.

Eligibility: Applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA)categories], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be Deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor's degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.

Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s Degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed Degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. Prospective candidates must maintain a valid email account throughout the selection process. There is no age restriction for appearing in CAT.

REGISTRATION: The process of Registration for CAT 2009 consists of purchase of CAT Voucher and then registering for the Examination at the designated website. CAT 2009 Vouchers can be obtained from branches of Axis Bank and their associated outlets during 9th September 2009 (Wednesday) and 1st October 2009 (Tuesday) for Rs.1400/- (Rs.700/- for SC/ST applicants). An applicant need buy only one CAT 2009 Voucher irrespective of the number of Institutes the applicant wishes to apply. The Voucher has to be brought only in the name of the applicant, as appearing in the School leaving Certificate. SC/ST applicants must show a copy of the SC/ST Certificate at the time of purchase of Voucher.

After purchasing the Voucher, applicant must log on to www.catiim.in for registering for CAT, during 9th September 2009 (Wednesday) and 1st October 2009 (Tuesday). Details of the registration process are available at this site. CAT 2009 result and Score card will be available at www.catiim.in from January 22, 2010. CAT website will also list the names of candidates short-listed for interviews by IIMs for PGP. Each IIM will send interview letters to the candidates it has short-listed. The criteria for short-listing vary from IIM to IIM and the same can be verified from the website of the concerned IIM.

A candidate short-listed for interview by any IIM, must show original Mark Sheets and submit photocopies, at the time of interview, to prove his/her eligibility. If a candidate is selected for a Programme, Original Degree certificate and Mark Sheets along with their photocopies must be submitted for verification at the time of joining the Programme.

Candidates in the Final Year of Graduation appearing for the final Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification examination, if short-listed for interview, must show an original certificate from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar/ Director of the University/Institution certifying that the candidate has obtained 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidates belonging to SC, ST, and DA category) based on latest available Grades/Marks. He/she must submit a photocopy of the original certificate at the time of interview. For the PGP of IIMs, such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the Programme provisionally only if they submit a Certificate latest by June 30, 2010 from the Principal/Registrar of their College/Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2010) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the results may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the Bachelor's Degree/ equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate. Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit original Mark sheet and Degree certificate of having passed the Bachelor's Degree / equivalent qualification referred to in the Certificate issued by Principal/Registrar of their College/Institute, securing 50% marks or equivalent. They also must submit a photocopy of the Mark Sheets and Degree Certificate latest by December 31, 2010. Non-fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.

IIMs would not allow any candidate to join their programme in case the candidate is unable to complete all the requirements for a Bachelor Degree on or before June 30, 2010. IIMs would also not offer admission to any candidate after June 30, 2010.

If short-listed for interview, SC, ST, NC-OBC, and DA candidates must show the original caste/class/disability certificate and submit a photocopy at the time of interview. Further, if a candidate is selected for a Programme, original certificate and its photocopy must be submitted for verification at the time of joining a Programme.The list of Institutes other than IIMs who will use CAT scores for their Management Admissions is given at the linkhttp://www.catiim.in/non_iim_institute.html
