SANDS is a professionally managed company established in 1995 by Dr. L.R. Rajagopal, an alumnus of IIT Delhi. Starting off as a manufacturing unit with focus on import substitute products using DSP & Embedded systems, the company within the first year of operations itself, bagged the first prize for Innovation in the 4th International Technology fair in 1995, for developing India’s first hand held computer.
Being one of the first companies in India to enter the electrical utility services sector in 2000, SANDS demonstrated that by adopting simple analytical and management tools, the utility could get substantial revenue benefits. The success of this model is reflected by the fact the Government (Ministry of Power) has adopted many of the company’s practices and recommendations at the national level.
